Quality Tools Categorization
There are different methods for Quality tools categorization. Some of the methods are:
1. What the tool will achieve for the organization?
2. What is the "Type" or "Affinity" group of the tool?

Quality Tools that Gather or Communicate Information: These are used for gathering information like suggestions or ideas, knowing the status, etc. Some of the tools that fall in this category are Checklist Check Sheet Nominal Group Technique (NGT) Brainstorming Questionnaire Suggestion Scheme Customer Satisfaction Assessment
Quality Tools that Involve Simple Level Analysis: These are used for simple analysis to get an overview of the current situation. These tools are not used for in depth analysis of the situation. These tools can act just as a trigger point for further analysis. Some of the tools that fall in this category are Flowchart Responsibility Matrix Histogram Scatter Diagram Pareto Analysis
Quality Tools that Involve Complex Level analysis: These are used for the in depth analysis of the situation. These involve complex analysis to find the methods for Monitoring, Controlling and Improvement. These tools are used for suggesting ways for Quality improvement. Some of the tools that fall in this category are Cause & Effect (Fish bone) Diagram Design of Experiment (DOE) Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) Fault Tree Analysis Gantt Chart Gap Analysis Matrix Diagram Process Capability Analysis Process Failure Analysis Quality Function Deployment (QFD) Control Charts Tree Diagram
Quality Tools that Leads to Changes to Part of the Organization: These are used in the organization at different locations or at problem areas. The implementation of these tools at the places of problem do not effect the working at other places. Though they can be applied across the organization but at for different location it will be used in a different way. Quality Tools that Leads to Major Changes in Organization: These when applied to any organization changes the working of the whole organization. These Quality tools are used for revamping the whole process and working style of the organization. Some of the tools that fall in this category are Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) Just in Time (JIT) Kaizen Kanban Zero Defect Six Sigma.
